Lessons Learned from Mobilock for Mobile Device Management (MDM)

Could you please share details/lessons learned from a MDM Mobilock experience so we can evaluate it for our Primero deployment?

  1. What essential apps are required for Primero or related work and recommended to be installed on the tablet?
  2. What are the possibilities exist around the usage of remote-access or remote-login type of apps that may be useful?
  3. For the many different Android devices, how did you manage the google-account issue, did you use a single google-account and if so, did this have any effect on Primero?
  4. Do you try using Multiple install then network install style?

In one of our deployments:

“Our experience from a technical point of view, the MDM Mobilock is a good application for device management. We had a difficulty at the beginning to work with as we didn’t know exactly the proper procedure on how to deploy to the devices. Once we logged in the system and work around with the MDM, we noticed that the application is straight forward implementation as long as you follow the instruction. For example, Once the mobile is wiped, We should sign in with code in the email box this is a must to be able to get the benefit with EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management). Then we use the barcode to register to our account. With this proper procedure, We can manage the application from the google play and custom application to be installed on all devices. The helpdesk also available to support. They are very helpful in case we have questions, they will guide us for the answer.”

From a cost perspective, they had paid $2,470 for 100 devices for the Pro version for 1 year with a 2-week trial. This information is publicly available on the Mobilock website.

In regards to the questions:

  1. What essential apps are required for Primero or related work and recommended to be installed on the tablet?

Primero can be installed to Android tablet, also Android device using APK file format.
The current recommended version of Android OS is V.6 and V.7, but recommend to test as some may be customized. Primero will be able to work in both off-line and on-line mode on the Android devices, and supporting only online when working on the laptop/PC (via web browser + JAVA). Accessing Primero from mobile device (no matter iOS or Android) using web browser will not fully function. From my personal perspective, additional app that might be useful is an app that could provide GIS data. Additional essential apps include the camera function as users needed to take photos.

  1. What are the possibilities exist around the usage of remote-access or remote-login type of apps that may be useful?

Until now, we never use remote-access or remote-login for the handset device, but now we use Team viewer for remote login in the laptops.

  1. For the many different Android devices, how did you manage the google-account issue, did you use a single google-account and if so, did this have any effect on Primero?

We use a single account.

  1. Do you try using Multiple install then network install style?

Do you mean push install from Mobilock then using network for installing the apps? if it is, then yes.
